Their parents are dead. They cannot cry. Four stoic middleschoolers (Specky, Fatso, Klepto, and Femme Fatale) become friends at the crematory. We are little zombies, they declare, dead but alive. They start a (literally) underground band which launches them into a hollow stardom. A child of 1980s console gaming, director Nagahisa Makoto’s (And So We Put Goldfish in the Pool, 41st) spell-binding debut is decadent in its vibrant ambition and drooling with veteran cameos (with Ikematsu Sosuke and Kikuchi Rinko).
